The Young Horse Evaluation application is a tool for judges, breeders and Icelandic horse enthusiasts to record their observations of young Icelandic horses presented for evaluation before they are old enough to be shown as ridden horses.
The judge can place a cross or arrow to record how each horse performs on a linear scale from 1 to 5 for each conformation, character, or movement trait. The cross indicates a firm position on the linear scale. An arrow indicates a trend toward the next higher (or lower) position on the scale.
The app calculates notes for each horse on a scale of 0 to 100 using the placement of the judges mark (cross or arrow) and weighting factor similar to those used by the FEIF Breeding Judges when evaluating ridden horses. Young horses may be ranked based on their overall note to determine the best shown horse by age and/or gender. The notes have no direct correlation to the ridden horse scores on a scale of 5 to 10.
Individual horse results can be emailed as a PDF file from within the app. The PDF shows the judgement for each individual trait along with any comments from the judge and the calculated notes for each of the major categories: conformation, character, and gaits & movements.
The results from an evaluation event can be emailed as either a PDF or comma separated values (CSV) file. The PDF includes a summary of the overall note and notes for each of the major trait categories. The CSV format includes the same information as the PDF and all of the detailed observations from the judge for each observed trait for each horse at the event.
